KATHMANDU, Nepal – Nepal and the Republic of Cameroon have recently established diplomatic relations, bringing the number of countries with which Nepal maintains diplomatic ties to 180.
In a brief ceremony held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations, Amrit Bahadur Rai, and Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cameroon to the United Nations, Michel Tommo Monthe, signed a Joint Communiqu solidifying this new relationship.
Both ambassadors signed a joint letter to officially inform the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres about establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.

During the ceremony, the ambassadors also took the opportunity to exchange views on various topics of mutual interest, to strengthen bilateral cooperation at both national and international levels, particularly within the UN forums.
Cameroon, situated in West Africa, is home to more than 240 ethnic communities speaking 230 languages. It shares borders with Chad, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and Nigeria.
The country achieved independence on January 1, 1960, and became a member of the United Nations on September 20 of the same year. Notably, Nepal and Cameroon are Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) members.
