“Inefficient and ineffective!”
That’s how President of the Negril Chamber of Commerce, Elaine Allen-Bradley described the National Water Commission, NWC’s, response as the town continues to struggle with the ongoing drought.
This comes as research by the Meteorological Service of Jamaica revealed that the country’s western parishes will be those worst affected as the drought continues.
Mahiri Stewart has that report.
During a press conference at the Office of the Ministry of Economic Growth in Kingston last week, both Minister with responsibility for Water, Senator Matthew Samuda and Acting President of the NWC, Kevin Kerr, detailed plans to supply Negril, Westmoreland with water as the country continues to experience drought.
This include trucking water to affected areas and repairing leaks on NWC lines.
Elaine Allen-Bradley says businesses in the island’s westernmost town are having difficulties with the lack of water.
She says though the efforts to truck water by the NWC are commendable, they are done at the expense of the area’s weak roads.
Mrs. Allen Bradley believes the demand for water during the drought is too much for the NWC to handle.
The Negril Chamber of Commerce President says the NWC are failing in their efforts to properly supply the residents of Negirl with potable water.
