Minister with responsibility for Water, Senator Mathew Samuda, is criticizing his Opposition counterpart, Ian Hayles, for championing what he calls the wasteful Rapid Response System of the former PNP administration.
Samuda has reacted to a video circulating on social media in which Mr. Hayles slams the government for scrapping the PNP administration’s emergency programme to deliver water.
Mahiri Stewart tells us more.
In his social media post, Ian Hayles is seen standing in front of some decrepit trucks.
Those trucks he says, were part of the Rapid Response Unit created by the previous PNP government.
The unit comprised 39 trucks dedicated to trucking water to communities across the island.
The Opposition Spokesman on Water says the trucks were left to rot after the programme was dismantled by the Holness administration which took power in 2016.
However, Minister Samuda says the trucks were not fit for purpose.
The Water Minister says the Rapid Response Unit ended up providing an avenue for corrupt individuals linked to the then PNP administration to leach off the Jamaican taxpayer.
Senator Samuda says the Holness Administration has made its own investment where the trucking of water is concerned.
