A manhunt is now underway to recapture eight inmates who escaped from the Black River Police lockup.
They were discovered missing during a routine check at 6 this morning.
Preliminary reports are that the inmates managed to escape by cutting through a ventilation grille at the back of the cell.
The escapees were in custody for serious crimes, including murder and aggravated robbery.

34-year old Anward Hinds, known as ‘Kirkie’, of Maroon Town, St. James, was facing charges for a quadruple murder.
25-year old Jevaughn Simms, of Copperwood, St. James and 30-year old Kenneth Stewart, of Beacon Hill, St. Catherine, were both being held for murder.
29-year old Demar Williams, of Gravel Heights in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, was in custody for shooting with intent.
The escapees, who were in custody for robbery with aggravation are 31-year old Oral Cole, of Comfort Hall, Manchester, 34-year old Richard Brown of Middle Quarters, St. Elizabeth, 38-year old Alrick Hutchinson of Brighton District, St. Elizabeth and 34-year old Dean Simpson, of Turner Top also in St. Elizabeth.
The police have since released photographs of the men.
Head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit, SSP Stephanie Lindsay, is encouraging members of the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings or information that could lead to their recapture.
An internal investigation, conducted by the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau, IPROB, is already underway to ascertain the circumstances of the escape.
