Libya and Tunisia launch free trade agreement measures

Libya and Tunisia have started implementing key provisions of their bilateral free trade agreement, including the use of electronic certificates of origin and the reactivation of the joint customs crossing.

The agreement also strengthens cooperation between the two countries in combating smuggling and commercial fraud through enhanced security coordination and information sharing, while supporting joint efforts to target illegal trade networks and improve border security.

Additional measures include adopting the “Send–Receive” document for exports, reviewing restrictions on foreign goods transported by land, and introducing logistical and procedural facilitations aimed at streamlining trade and easing truck movement across border crossings. The two sides are also continuing consultations to advance the Ben Guerdane Free Trade Zone project and stimulate economic activity in border areas.
