The Jamaica Umbrella Group of Churches, JUGC, is the latest religious group to comment on the Integrity Commission’s Report.
Earlier today, the Jamaica Council of Churches, JCC, called for patience as it relates to the process of certifying the Prime Minister’s statutory declarations.
JUGC is urging the Parliament to ensure the Integrity Commission’s oversight is characterized by international best practices and the highest standard of objectivity.
They are calling on all Parliamentarians to sign the leadership code of conduct on which their signatures were requested by the IC.
JUGC says in the interest of public accountability , there should be no further delay in the process of signing the code by all members of the Legislative and Executive branches of the Government.
The group has highlighted that the Integrity Commission has a vital role in promoting transparency, accountability and monitoring the conduct of public officials.
It says with this in mind, any contemplation of changes in the operations of the Integrity Commission, should be done after reflection and the involvement of civil society.
They are encouraging political leaders and citizens to make responsible, constructive and objective pronouncements.
