The Jamaica Civil Service Association, JCSA, says it stands firmly in support of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dunstan Bryan, who it believes is currently facing undue backlash.
Mr. Bryan and other health professionals have come under fire in recent weeks due to concerns over the state of the sector.
The Permanent Secretary has specifically been scrutinised for the Ministry’s handling of its appropriations accounts dating back nearly a decade.
Chevon Campbell tells us more.
As the PNP continues to hammer the government for what it sees as the poor state of the country’s health infrastructure, Mr. Bryan has not been left out of the scrutiny.
He’s on a long list of senior officials in the public health sector, who’ve been called on to resign by the Opposition PNP.
But the JCSA is defending one of its own.
In a statement on Tuesday, it recognized the invaluable contributions and unwavering dedication of Dunstan Bryan in serving the health sector and the nation, especially during challenging times.
The JCSA says the recent attacks not only undermine Bryan’s integrity and professionalism, but also pose a threat to the stability and effectiveness of the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
It’s condemning what it sees as any form of interference that compromises the autonomy and efficiency of public servants.
It’s calling on all stakeholders to respect and uphold the professional boundaries and maintain the nonpartisan nature of the civil service.
The JCSA wants immediate action to safeguard the well-being of the Permanent Secretary and other public servants from undue political pressures.
It’s also urging the government and relevant authorities to take immediate action to safeguard the professional integrity and mental well-being of the Permanent Secretary.
