The Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, was on Wednesday forced to publicly dispel two widely circulated rumours involving Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
In the first incident, an image was circulated on social media which suggested that the prime minister was a subject of the JCF’s Wanted Wednesdays campaign.
The JCF says the image was doctored, and did not originate from any of its official channels.
By late evening, reports surfaced that the police were executing a raid at the prime minister’s private residence in St Andrew.
The JCF issued a statement denying the reports.
The constabulary did confirm that there was an increased police presence in the vicinity of the Prime Minister’s residence and the surrounding community.
It said, however, that the deployment was initiated in response to credible intelligence indicating a legitimate security threat to the Prime Minister and his household.
The force says it repelled the threat but will maintain a presence at the location in line with standard security protocols.
Nationwide News understands the threat was related to coordinated plans to mount protests near the prime minister’s home.
The JCF is urging the public to refrain from sharing unverified content and to rely on official sources of information.
The rumours surfaced the day after the Integrity Commission released its special report on its investigation into the Prime Minister’s declared income and assets.
The report was tabled in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
