Jamaica has recorded 1.7 million visitors in the first five months of the year.
Preliminary data from the Ministry of Tourism indicates that the island recorded just over 1 million stopover arrivals as at May 5 and over 700,000 cruise passengers as at May 7.
This resulted in roughly US $1.8 billion in revenue for the sector.
This also represents a 4.6 per cent increase in stopover arrivals and a 23 per cent increase in cruise passengers over the corresponding period in 2023.
Tourism minister, Edmund Bartlett, says the continued growth in tourist arrivals and earnings speaks to the confidence that our partners and visitors have in the destination.
He says the country is on track to welcome 5 million visitors and earn US $5 billion by 2025.
Minister Bartlett is leading a mission at the Arabian Travel Market being held in Dubai.
Over the last three decades, the Arabian Travel Market has become a leading global event, enabling growth for the travel and tourism industries, with 41,000 participants attending this year’s staging.
Minister Bartlett will be in discussions with several tourism partners and stakeholders as part of his strategic vision to attract more visitors from that region.
He will also be meeting with the senior leadership of Emirates Airline at their headquarters in Dubai to advance negotiations for air connectivity between the United Arab Emirates and Jamaica.
