Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana feels that his foundation in Cameroon is something of a duty given his position in football.
Speaking to Cameroonian news outlet Camer.be, the 27-year-old gave his thoughts on why he feels that players who enjoy success like him ought to give back to those who aren’t as fortunate in the world.
Nerazzurri goalkeeper Onana has been working with his foundation in Cameroon this month.
The former Ajax star set up his foundation, working with a Spanish NGO, to help children. The aim of the foundation is to provide surgeries to who need them but have trouble accessing and affording them.
For Onana, this is done out of a sense of duty to use what he’s achieved for good.
The Cameroonian has enjoyed a successful football career. Over his time at Ajax and then Inter Onana has won trophies and enjoyed the limelight.
Apart from the prestige that comes from being one of European football’s top goalkeepers, the 27-year-old has also benefited financially.
Onana’s talents have allowed him to earn lucrative wages throughout his career.

From the player’s perspective, he feels that he’s obliged to do something positive with his wealth.
Onana explained that “We had our first campaign as a foundation in 2017.”
“The foundation is already six years old,” he noted. “Our goal is to help those in the greatest need.”
The Inter keeper noted that “I myself benefited. I’m also the product of a foundation.”
“I also think of it as a way to reach out to my younger brothers, my cadets,” Onana said. “I come from an average family.”
