Infinity Power, which currently operates 1.3GW of renewable energy and aims to reach 10GW by 2030, will develop the Cameroonian projects in phases. These projects aim to provide clean, renewable power for domestic consumption, addressing Cameroon’s critical power needs amid a 27% increase in per capita electricity consumption over the past two decades.
Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Chairman of Infinity Power, expressed enthusiasm for the new project, highlighting the company’s goal to operate in every African country. Nayer Fouad, CEO of Infinity Power, emphasized the transformative potential of the facility for Cameroon’s energy provision and economy.
Ahmed Mulla noted the significance of the partnership in addressing Cameroon’s energy needs through sustainable solutions, while Dr. Jules Hilaire Focka Focka highlighted the strategic importance of energy generation for regional development. The Western Region Strategic Development Plan, which includes a dried port and railway system, will benefit from the increased energy capacity.
Dr. Vincent Kitio pointed out the Western Region’s renewable energy potential of over 6GW, contrasting with the current 100MW received from the national grid for its 2 million residents. He stressed the transformative impact of the project on socio-economic development and poverty alleviation.
The MoU aligns with Infinity Power’s mission to expand its renewable energy footprint across Africa and supports the United Nations’ sustainable development goals. This announcement follows Infinity Power’s recent agreement with the Egyptian Government for a 10GW onshore wind project, set to be one of the world’s largest renewable energy undertakings.
