Shoprite shut down operations across Uganda in 2021.
A Facebook post advertising vacancies at Shoprite Uganda is a HOAX.
The purported vacancies include positions for waiters, waitresses, cleaners, security personnel, till operators, advertisers, merchandisers, and shop assistants.
The alleged advertisement states that successful candidates, whether experienced or not, will work in supermarkets, restaurants, canteens, or boutiques.
The post promises to provide food and transport to the successful candidates. The same claim has been shared here and here.
However, the post is fraudulent since Shoprite shut down operations across Uganda in 2021.
Consequently, Majid Al Futtaim, a Carrefour franchise holder, took over six stores in Uganda from the South African retailer.
Shoprite Holdings announced that it withdrew from Kenya in March 2021 and signalled its exit from Uganda and Madagascar in August 2021, following continued reviews of its performance in African markets.
Shoprite told PesaCheck via a message on X(Formerly Twitter) that the company is in no way affiliated with the job advert.
“We can assure you that Shoprite is in no way affiliated with this. We have also recently published an alert to our customers about scams.” the message read.
PesaCheck has looked into a Facebook post promoting vacancies at Shoprite Uganda and finds it to be a HOAX.
