The Caribbean country of Haiti is bracing for likely impacts from Hurricane Beryl, and in Palm Beach County, organizations are taking steps to send needed supplies to Haiti- a country already reeling from gang rule.Valley of Love Ministries in West Palm Beach works all year round to support the people of Haiti in several ways, but now, with Hurricane Beryl just days away from likely impacting Haiti, the organization is ramping up its efforts.”If that thing hits, oh my goodness, only God knows. I’m going to be praying,” said Queen Bmazazhi Karu, president of Valley of Love Ministries in West Palm Beach. She says that between sending needed supplies like food and water to Haiti and helping people there get an education, among other services, their work is more important than ever — hurricane or no hurricane.”A lot of people they don’t have nothing to eat, and with the gang members, there’s so much stuff going on in Haiti right now,” Karu said. “It hurts me on the inside just to know how my brothers and sisters are suffering over there.”With gang rule continuing to grip the country, a contingent of hundreds of foreign police arrived this week to try to help restore order.But now, with Hurricane Beryl expected to make impacts, there will soon be more challenges for people who are already desperate.That’s where Valley of Love Ministries says you can help.”We are going to need water, canned goods, rice, beans, oil, whatever they can donate,” Karu said. “I’m asking the community, please let’s get together, let’s get together first, let’s pray for Haiti, and if you can get help financially, please, we sure can use it.
