The new works minister told journalists that eight companies responded to the bid on the Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement to our Road Network, SPARK, project.
Five were short-listed. They are: Sinohydro Corporation Limited from China, Municipal Enterprises Limited from Canada, Lagan Aviation and Infrastructure Limited from the UK, China Harbour Engineering Company Limited from China and VINCI Construction Grands Projects from France.
Minister Morgan says of the eight companies that participated in the pre-qualification stage, two of them were local companies.
The $40 billion SPARK Programme is targeting more than 2,000 community, parochial, and secondary roads across Jamaica. Each constituency is allocated $150 million to undertake necessary road improvement projects.
Minister Morgan says the five companies have until mid-August to make a decision on the two year long contract proposals offered.
Meanwhile, Minister Morgan says consultation meetings have been held in 21 constituencies to determine which roads will be repaired under SPARK.
The minister says the National Water Commission is also examining the list of proposed roads.
