The top five teams in both gender categories will represent Africa at this year’s FIVB U19 Beach Volleyball World Championships
FIVB Volleyball Empowerment supported teams, Morocco and Gambia, impressed at the CAVB Africa Under-19 Beach Volleyball Championships by claiming silver and bronze in the women’s competition.
FIVB has invested CHF 18,000 in Coach Support in Morocco with Coach Garcia Rodriguez Christian taking charge of both their men and women beach volleyball teams. In the Gambia, FIVB has invested CHF 72,000 and tasked Coach Mounir Ghellaimi with leading both their men and women beach volleyball teams.
In the women’s tournament held in Martil, Morocco between 24 and 28 June, home team Aida Lamzaouak and Imane Fakhr just fell short of the gold medal as they lost 2-0 (5-21, 8-21) to Nigeria’s Bawa Pamela Miyom and Mbat Esther Onyinye in the final.
The junior gold medal was an upgrade from the bronze that Miyom and Onyinye had settled for at the CAVB Continental Cup held last week at the same venue in Morocco.
The winning duo had overcome The Gambia’s Njie Hoja and Kinteh Fatou 2-0 (21-3, 21-9) in the semi-finals while Aida and Imane secured a 2-0 (21-11, 21-14) victory over compatriots Fatima Zahra Boysfi and Azarioh Salma to reach the final.
Njie and Kinte secured bronze for The Gambia with a 2-0 (21-19, 21-18) victory over Fatimazahra and Azariah in the third-place playoff.

Sierra Leone won the men’s competition held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast between 25 and 27 June.
Alle Jalloh and Musa Kamara from Sierra Leone defeated Ghana’s Anyetei Ebenezer and Abbey Emmanuel 2-0 (21-13, 21-11) in the men’s final.
Alle and Musa had beaten Nigeria’s Victor Eze and Ndifrike George 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) in the semi-finals while Anyetei Ebenezer and Abbey Emmanuel claimed victory over Democratic Republic of Congo’s Jonathan Mulapwa Sakeni and Gloire Mutendi Nzazi 2-0 (22-20, 21-18) to qualify for the final.

In the third-place play-off, George and Victor beat Jonathan and Gloire 2-0 (21-11,21-13) to clinch the bronze medal for Nigeria.
The men’s competition saw nine teams from nine countries compete for the coveted title while the women’s competition had six entries from five nations.
The top five teams in both gender categories will represent Africa at the FIVB U19 Beach Volleyball World Championships set for Shangluo, China from 27 August to 1 September this year.
