Energy Minister, Daryl Vaz, is welcoming the announcement by the Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS, that approximately $50 million will be credited to the bills of St. Elizabeth residents, who are still without electricity, 43 days after the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
But Mr. Vaz believes JPS can do more for the affected residents.
The light and power company told residents in a meeting on Thursday, that each JPS customer affected by the delay in power restoration, will be getting a $5,000 credit on their bill.
The Energy Minister is also urging JPS to provide a comprehensive schedule of restoration works for those residents who remain without power.

In the meantime, Member of Parliament for South West St. Elizabeth, Floyd Green, says $5,000 credit to JPs customers in the parish is simply not enough.
Mr. Green says customers still without electricity should not be billed.
Mr. Green is urging JPS to better its August 31 deadline for the full restoration of electricity in the parish.

And Mayor of Black River, Richard Solomon, is calling on St. Elizabeth residents to exercise patience as electricity restoration efforts continue.
