The Manchester police say while there has been an uptick in murders in the parish in recent weeks, major crimes in the division are down by 16 per cent.
Divisional head Deputy Superintendent Carey Duncan provided the update to Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Wednesday.

The Manchester police have attributed recent shooting incidents in the parish, including murders, to lottery scamming. DSP Duncan says the incidents are connected to disputes over the spoils of the illegal activity.
He says his team has made several arrests and has executed several high-end seizures in the recent incidents. He says the arrest rate is 78 per cent.

Prime Minister Holness says he is heartened to learn of the security force’s progress and plans to stem to tide of crime in the usually peaceful parish.
He says he will advance discussions with the police commissioner and the Minister of National Security with a view to dismantling lottery scamming.
Meanwhile, the Manchester police have imposed curfews in several communities to prevent reprisals amid recent murders in the parish.

DSP Duncan says the curfews were first imposed on Monday. They were extended for a further 48 hours effective 6 am on Wednesday.
He says the measures will continue for as long as necessary to curb existing threats.
