The defence in the murder trial of Omar Collymore and his three co-defendants wrapped up their closing arguments on Thursday in the Supreme Court.
The next phase of the trial will see Justice Leighton Pusey summing up the case on Monday May 13.
Collymore is accused of killing his wife, businesswoman Simone Campbell Collymore and her taxi driver, Winston Walters on January 2, 2018.
He’s jointly charged with, Michael Adams, Dewayne Pink and Shaquilla Edwards.
Robian Williams has been following the trial.
On Thursday, Dewayne Pink’s attorney submitted that the prosecution failed to prove that his client had any involvement in the murders.
Attorney Ernest Davis said that there was no eyewitness or evidence linking Pink to any conspiracy to kill anyone.
He urged the jury to carefully examine the evidence to see if Pink was part of any common design to commit the crime.
Again, Mr. Davis argued that the prosecution has failed to produce any credible evidence against Pink.
He urged the jury to find Pink not guilty.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Defence Attorney representing Shaquilla Edwards, asked the jury to focus on the fact that her client had withdrawn himself from the conspiracy to kill Mrs. Campbell Collymore.
The Attorney, Gnoj McDonald, said Edwards was not present when the plan was being hatched.
According to McDonald, her client was in Greater Portmore, St. Catherine during the time of Simone’s murder.
She stated that, “he was not present when the men met up at Brooke Valley, he was not present when they were being given firearms, he was not present when they were being assigned roles.”
McDonald told the jury that the prosecution picked apart Edwards’ story to fit the narrative they wanted.
She added that Edwards chose to provide the police with information during his question and answer, including the lies he told to escape from being involved in the murder plot.
McDonald noted that Edwards did not hide that he knew the men were conspiring to kill Simone.
She also stated that evidence was not produced to link Edwards’ cell phone records to the double murder or the conspiracy.
