A Jamaican man who was due to be sentenced on Thursday after being found guilty on several drug related charges, was nabbed by the police as he attempted to flee to the United States using a fake passport.
He’s 38-year-old Kimauly Hoyles of Abernathy Drive, Patrick City in St Andrew.
When Hoyles failed to turn up for court on Thursday morning, the judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
Agents of the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division, FNID, acted swiftly and tracked him down to Sangster International Airport in St. James, over 100 miles away.
They arrested him as he prepared to leave the island, using an American passport that bore a different name to the one the police have on file for him.
In May this year Hoyles was found guilty of possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, attempting to export cocaine, trafficking cocaine, conspiracy to export cocaine and possession of criminal property.
Hoyles, a former employee at Norman Manley International airport, was arrested on the job on December 10, 2020.
The police say they were conducting routine surveillance when they searched his vehicle and found 611 pounds of cocaine.
The drugs were estimated to have a street value of over 2-billion Jamaican dollars.
