A St. Elizabeth construction worker has been charged with larceny and housebreaking following a supermarket break-in last week.
Charged is Dwayne Atkinson, otherwise called ‘Blacks’, a 29-year-old construction worker of New Town in the parish.
Reports are that the police was alerted after surveillance cameras picked up four men in the vicinity of a popular supermarket in Black River.
The lawmen went to the location and upon their arrival, the men fled the scene. However, the police were able to detain Atkinson. Upon later inspection it was found that entry to the establishment had been gained through a window.
Atkinson was subsequently taken into custody where he was charged and his court date is being finalised.
The stolen items were successfully identified and recovered by their owner. The other culprits are still being pursued by the Black River police.
Also in St. Elizabeth, the police have seized a Smith and Wesson revolver, along with six rounds of ammunition along the New Holland main road last Friday.
Reports from the Black River Police, are that about 11:55 p.m., lawmen were conducting patrol in the area when a vehicle was signalled to stop.
A search was conducted of the vehicle and its occupants.
During the search, the firearm and ammunition was found inside the trunk of the motor car.
Five people were taken into custody, however their identities are being withheld pending further investigations.
