The police are making progress in their investigation into the shooting death of 16-year-old Carson Barrett in Grange Hill, Westmoreland last Thursday.
National Security Minister, Dr. Horace Chang, made the comment while speaking Friday at Grange Hill High School.
Mahiri Stewart has that report.
Carson and a 15-year-old schoolmate were shot by men travelling on a motorcycle as they walked on Belle Isle Road.
They had left a sports day activity at Grange Hill High School when the gunmen attacked.
Carson succumbed to his injuries while the girl was admitted to hospital.
On Friday, a delegation led by Dr. Chang, visited the school to provide support.
Education Minister, Fayval Williams, also led a team from her ministry.
The touring party also visited the Grange Hill Primary, Peggy Barry Primary, and infant schools.
Dr. Chang sought to assure Grange Hill High’s students that security forces were hard at work to prevent any of them from being victims of violent crimes.
Minister Chang says the security forces have intelligence that is helping them in their investigation of Carson’s murder.
And the Education Minister says her ministry is doing its best to put an end to what she describes as abnormal levels of violence in schools.
