Minister with responsibility for Works, Robert Morgan, says Cabinet is set to be updated on the progress of the government’s SPARK Programme next Monday.
The SPARK Programme is a $45 billion initiative aimed at significantly upgrading Jamaica’s infrastructure.
It will focus on critical improvements to road networks and water systems.
Minister Morgan says the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation and the National Works Agency, NWA, are in the final stages of contract negotiations.
He specifies that the negotiations are being conducted through a transparent and competitive International Competitive Bidding process.
These negotiations are focused on finalising terms that align with the Government’s policy objectives and budgetary framework.
The government has already conducted two rounds of negotiations.
It is now collaborating closely with stakeholders such as the Ministries of Local Government and Finance and the National Water Commission to finalise the terms of contracts.
While the projected start date looms, the SPARK programme is expected to continue through March 2027.
The initial phase will focus on rehabilitating community and parochial roads, while more complex structural upgrades will follow.
