At least three business groups have welcomed the announcement by Finance Minister, Dr Nigel Clarke to move the duty free threshold for personal items imported into Jamaica from 50-to-100-US-dollars and the 1-hundred-percent rise in the duty free allowance at airports.
The pending measures mean people who shop online and import items through courier agencies, will pay no customs fees on goods valued at 1-hundred-US dollars or less.
Those bringing home goods from overseas trips can expect to pay nothing on items valued up to 1-thousand US dollars.
The implementation is set to take effect in April, 2024.

Dr Clarke made the announcement while addressing the JLP’s 80th annual conference at the National Arena on Sunday.
President of the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Alliance, Donovan Wignall, says the move is long overdue.
The Finance Minister also told labourites on Sunday that persons returning to the island from overseas will now be able to bring in goods worth up to 1-thousand US dollars without paying any duties.
The previous duty free exemption figure was 5-hundred-US-dollars.
Managing Director of Jamaica Trading Services Limited, Mitzie Burke-Green, says this is a welcome measure.
And Secretary of the E-Commerce Couriers Association of Jamaica, Nicole Francis, welcomed the move.
