A British woman reportedly committed suicide at the Negril Police Station in Westmoreland on Tuesday morning.
The woman has been identified as 57-year-old Justine Templeman a resident of San Francisco in California, USA.
She was vacationing at a hotel on Norman Manley Boulevard in the resort town.
Shaloy Smikle reports
Nationwide News sources say the woman went for a swim and was not seen or heard from for a long while.
Before going for the swim, she had expressed suicidal thought to a staff member at her hotel.
That was at about 7:30pm on Monday.
At 2am on Tuesday, Ms Templeman was seen naked and behaving boisterously at another hotel property.
The police were called in.
When they arrived they gave her a robe, restrained her and transported her to the Negril Police Station at about 5am.
While at the station, arrangements were made for her to get medication and be transported to the Savanna-la-Mar Public Hospital.
While still at the station, she asked and was assisted to the bathroom on several occasions.
But on one occasion, she ran to the bathroom and locked herself inside.
Police personnel broke down the door and found her hanging inside the room.
Ms Templeman was rushed to the Savanna-la-Mar Public Hospital with a weak pulse.
She was pronounced dead at about 11am.
When contacted, head of the JCF’s Corporate Communications Unit, Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, confirmed the incident.
But she was unable to give details.
