The murder trial of Portland businessman Everton “Beachy Stout” McDonald and his co-accused, Oscar Barnes, will take centre-stage in the Home Circuit Court this week, as the case is expected to be handed to the seven member jury for deliberation.
Beachy Stout and Oscar Barnes are charged jointly with the July 2020 murder of his second wife, Tonia Hamilton McDonald.
The men have been on trial since September 2023.
The prosecution called fourteen witnesses, who testified against Beachy Stout and Oscar Barnes.
The witnesses included the convicted contract killer, Denvalyn Bubbla Minott, a former employee of Beachy Stout, Tonia’s mother, a forensic pathologist as well as police personnel.
The prosecution painted Beachy Stout as a jealous man, after he found out that Tonia was cheating on him.
They submit jealousy was the motive for her murder.
But the defence argued that the prosecution’s case was “filled with lies, liars and people with an interest to serve.”
The defence previously submitted that the case against Beachy Stout and Barnes is a concoction of contradicting evidence.
Presiding judge, Justice Chester Stamp is expected to wrap up his summation of the high profile murder trial which will resume at 10:00 am on Monday.
