Football kicked off the action at the 2024 Olympics on Wednesday – with Argentina scoring in the 16th minute of injury time to snatch a dramatic draw with Morocco, while Spain defeated Uzbekistan.
Even though the opening ceremony of the Games does not take place until Friday, the men’s football tournament began across France two days earlier.
Argentina, the winners in 2004 and 2008, were 2-0 behind to Morocco before Cristian Medina headed in a stunning equaliser to make it 2-2 with the last action of the match.
Meanwhile, Spain won 2-1 against an Uzbekistan side that were playing in their first match at an Olympics.
There are eight games in the men’s competition on Wednesday, with the women’s competition starting on Thursday.
The football takes place in seven cities across France and both the men’s and women’s finals will be played in Paris.
Men’s Olympic squads are made up of under-23s players, with up to three overage players allowed, while women’s squads have no age restrictions.
