An autopsy performed today on eight-year-old Danielle Rowe has confirmed that she died of an incised wound to the neck.
This means a clean, straight cut caused by a sharp edge, such as a knife. This causes heavy bleeding as multiple vessels may be cut cut directly across.
Both of Danielle’s parents were present for the autopsy at the House of Tranquility in downtown Kingston.
We have more in this report from Nora Gaye Banton.
The distant screaming and wailing came from Danielle’s mom, who could hardly believe what she had just seen.
The lifeless body of her child lying on a stretcher, inside a morgue.
Ready to be dissected.
Equally distressed, Danielle’s father.
Police Corporal Norval Rowe, sat a few metres away from Danielle’s mom and her relatives.
The distraught lawman was also comforted by a few of his colleagues, including the lead investigator on the case, who promised that he will do everything to bring the perpetrator to justice.
There were at least six autopsies scheduled today but none carrying the same emotional burdens.
At one point, police personnel and several staff at the morgue appeared disoriented.
They could hardly stomach the pain and grief that permeated the air during the six hour wait.
“This one is really rough”, remarked a grief-stricken family member.
Danielle, a grade two student at Braeton Primary, in Portmore, St Catherine, was left for dead on Roosevelt Avenue in St Andrew after she was found with her throat slashed.
She died in hospital two days later after she was brutally attacked on June 8.
