Bryan Levell created history for Edwin Allen when he won the class-1 boys’ 200-metres to complete the sprint double at the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
Levell, who on Wednesday won the 100-metres, added the half lap event to his athletics resume after stopping the clock at 20.77 seconds.
He’s the first boy from the Frankfield, Clarendon-based school to accomplish the feat.
Levell finished ahead of Deandre Watkin of Jamaica College in 20.84 seconds with the 400-metres champion, Gregory Prince of St. Jago third in 20.92 seconds.
In the girls’ race, Brianna Lyston of Hydel redeemed herself by winning the event in a meet record.
Lyston, who was the pre-race favourite to win the 100-metres final was upstaged by Tina Clayton of Edwin Allen.
Lyston’s 22.53 seconds clocking to win the 200-metres bettered the previous mark of 22.71 seconds set by Simone Facey of Vere Technical in 2004.
Malayia Duncan of Hydel broke the Class-4 girls’ 70-metres hurdles record winning the final in 10.38 seconds.
She bettered the previous mark of 10.41 set by Danae Nembhard of St. Jago in 2017.
Arihanna Brown of Edwin Allen got the silver in 10.58 seconds, with St. Jago’s Rihanna Anderson taking the bronze in 10.62 seconds.
Hydel completed the quinella in the class-2 girls 100-metres hurdles final.
Kerrica Hill won in a record 12.71 second, with her teammate Shania Myers second in 13.27 seconds and Asharria Ulett of St. Catherine high third in 13-point-35 seconds.
Meanwhile, after 35 events, Edwin Allen continues to lead the girls’ table with 261 points.
They are 45 points clear of second place Hydel, with St. Jago third on 175 points, in fourth is Holmwood Technical with 120 points and Excelsior 76 round out the top 5.
On the boys side, Kingston College seems on course to register their 33rd hold on the title with 262 points after 30 events, in second is defending champions Jamaica College with 214.33 points.
In third is Calabar with 99, St. Jago fourth on 85 points, while Edwin Allen 63 round out the top five.
