MBJ Airports Limited, the operator of Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St. James, says there are no structural problems with the main runway following a recent closure.
The main runway at Sangster International was temporarily closed over the weekend, with inbound flights diverted to Norman Manley International Airport.
MBJ says it is committed to maintaining high standards of security and safety in its operations, which include stringent maintenance and safety protocols, especially as it relates to the runway.
It says there are currently no operational issues at Sangster International impacting the safety of the runway or any other major infrastructure.
MBJ says, as per standard operating procedures, regular assessments are carried out on all components on schedule.
However, unforeseen issues may occur.
It says, in situations requiring assessment, MBJ may briefly suspend activities as a precautionary measure and implement all necessary safeguards to facilitate a prompt and safe resumption of services.
This, MBJ Airports Limited, says was demonstrated during the incident on Sunday.
MBJ is seeking to assure the public that the runway at the airport is compliant with not only the local authorities and Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority but also meets the highest international standards set forth by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
