GREENWOOD DIST. – In the heart of East Africa, a small village in Uganda witnessed a remarkable transformation when members of New Life Church of Jesus Christ, World Won Development, J.A.M.E.S., Inc., and The Juice Radio Show embarked on a life-changing mission trip. From July 15-23, 2024, these dedicated individuals partnered with Youth for Charity Missions (YOFOCHM) to bring hope, resources, and a vision of a brighter future to Kamuli, Uganda.
The collaboration between New Life and World Won Development began in December 2022, when they joined forces to gather donations and resources for YOFOCHM. This initial effort revealed further needs, prompting them to enlist additional organizations to provide more comprehensive support.
Transformative Journey: Youth Empowerment and Cross-Cultural Exchange
For Ambrana Wimberly, a 9th grader from McLain High School and member of The Juice Radio Show, the trip was a unique opportunity.
“This opportunity has been great because who do you know that’s 16-years old, from North Tulsa, that can say they went to Uganda? I’ll wait. The only person I know is me,” Wimberly shared.
“The experience has been life-changing for all of the participants, especially the youth,” said Pastor Rodney Gray of New Life Church.
Damali Wilson, COO of World Won Development, emphasized the trip’s broader significance: “This trip was about sharing knowledge and information between the people of two countries, who are actively involved in changing the community in which they sit.”
Collaborative Efforts: Addressing Infrastructure and Community Needs in Kamuli
During the mission, a town hall meeting brought together several groups. These included New Life, World Won Development, Tulsa District 1 Councilwoman Vanessa Hall Harper, the Kamuli Mayor’s office, and about 75 community leaders. The purpose was to devise strategies for addressing the area’s infrastructure and development challenges. J.A.M.E.S., Inc. engaged with young mothers, offering resources and support.
The team also renovated the church by replacing its dirt floor with concrete and painting the structure. Further, they updated the restrooms with running water and operational toilets. A home was constructed for a blind villager, thousands were fed, and feminine supplies, clothing, and financial resources were distributed to several families. Additionally, technology, including a laptop and projector, was provided to the community.
Sustained Commitment: Funding Education and Support through Uganda Missions
Since 2022, the Uganda missions have been a focal point for World Won Development and its partners. They have worked tirelessly to raise funds for scholarships, enabling over 70 Kamuli children to attend school. The annual African Experience event supports these efforts. Donations continue to be accepted year-round at worldwondevelopment.com/uganda-missions.
