Jamaica’s homicide rate is continuing its downward trend.
The latest statistics from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, show that murders are now down 14 per cent so far this year.
According to the JCF, 626 people were killed between January 1 and July 13 this year. That’s 103 fewer than the corresponding period last year.

St. James continues to record the most murders in any police division, with 78 homicides as at July 13.
But that figure is still 29 fewer than the 107 murders recorded in the division during the corresponding period in 2023.
St. James is followed by Westmoreland, which had 59 murders.
The St. Andrew South Division recorded 16 fewer murders for the period, with 52 homicides.
In St. Catherine North and South, both divisions had 46 people killed.
Murders have increased in Trelawny, St. Elizabeth, East Kingston, St. Andrew Central, and St. Andrew North, when compared to 2023.
On the other hand, Portland continues to record the least number of murders, with 6.
Meanwhile, shootings have declined by 1 per cent, coming in at 565 as at July 13.
That’s seven fewer incidents than the number recorded for the corresponding period last year.
Other major crimes, such as rapes, robberies, and break-ins, continue to decline.
