Two weeks!
That’s how long FLOW says it will take the telecoms giant to restore complete service to customers experiencing phone and Internet outages as a result of Hurricane Beryl.
General Manager Stephen Price, says the root of the problem was the power cut by the Jamaica Public Service Company.
He was speaking on Cliff Hughes Online on Thursday.
Daina Davy reports.
Several customers of FLOW’s phone and Internet services experienced outages and disconnection of their service during the passage of Hurricane Beryl, on Wednesday.
According to Mr. Price, the outages were due to cell sites losing electricity. He says only 10 per cent of the network’s traffic is impacted.
He notes that more than 60 per cent of the company’s cell sites are backed up by generators.
Mr. Price says once commercial power is restored, FLOW will be able to reconnect its service in 95 per cent of cases. He says, however, that the company has major assessments to complete, especially in hard-hit areas.
For that reason, Price says, FLOW’s restoration plan will take two weeks.
Mr. Price says damage to trees and infrastructure have hampered restoration efforts in some areas.
