The country’s two major airports will be closed tonight as Jamaica prepares for Hurricane Beryl.
Hurricane Beryl is expected to start impacting the country on Wednesday morning.
Shaloy Smikle reports.
The operators of Sangster International Airport, MBJ Airports Limited, say they’ll be closing the facility at midnight.
However, Commercial Development and Marketing Manager at MBJ Airports Limited, Sharon Hislop-Holt, says some airlines have arranged extra flights out of the country.
She’s urging passengers to contact their airlines for flight information and to confirm their flight status before travelling to the airport.
Mrs Hislop Holt says following the hurricane, a comprehensive assessment will be done to determine when operations will resume.
Meanwhile, Norman Manley International Airport is set to close at 10 tonight.
PAC Kingston Airport Limited, which manages the facility, says the decision was made in the interest of safety as well as the protection of airport infrastructure.
It says all flights for Tuesday will operate as scheduled.
However, the reopening of the airport will be determined based on the assessment of post-storm conditions.
Passengers are also advised to contact their respective airlines for information on flight cancellations and rescheduling.
