ANGOLA — Since its founding nearly 50 years ago, Music Americana has been a tradition leading up to the Fourth of July celebration in Angola.
This year is not any different for the free show coordinated by the 101 Lakes Kiwanis Club.
Wednesday, the 47th performance will take the stage at the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts at Trine University, 500 W. Maumee St., with a tribute to area veterans beginning at 6 p.m.
The entertainment begins at 7 p.m. with a welcome from Angola Mayor Dave Martin. Former Mayor Dick Hickman, a member of the Kiwanis Club, will serve as master of ceremonies.
There are approximately 150 veterans in the tribute video that will be played that includes their photographs, names and service information.
Founded by Art and Joan Ryan during the celebration of the nation’s bicentennial in 1976, Music Americana is a patriotic program full of talent with area performers sharing a joy of patriotic performances.
This year’s show features some numerous acts of old favorite performers and new. Jerry Sonner, a May 2024 Honor Flight honoree, will give a presentation, as will Becky Kjendalen, president of the 101 Lakes Kiwanis Club.
Each branch of the military will also be recognized during the event, and veterans of each branch in attendance will be asked to stand to be recognized.
American flags will be presented to all wishing to receive one, compliments of the Steuben County Democratic and Republican parties.
Music Americana is coordinated by the 101 Lakes Kiwanis in conjunction with the Angola Parks Department, Trine University and the Steuben County Tourism Bureau.
