Last edition’s Cosafa Cup finalists Lesotho are at risk of
elimination from the annual competition after falling 2-1 against
Namibia on Monday at the Wolfson Stadium Stadium.
The Brave Warriors meant business from the first whistle,
pressing their opponent with every opportunity they got.
Their resilience paid dividends in the 38th minute; the
Crocodiles failed to clear a corner, resulting in a melee in the
danger zone that resulted in Ivan Kamberipa beating Sekhoane
Moerane in the Lesotho goal.
Likuena fought back with purpose after the break, eventually
getting an equalizer in the 54th minute thanks to Neo
Mokhachane.
It was Namibia’s first win in South Africa in the ongoing
tournament after playing to a goalless draw in Group C’s matchday
one against Angola.
Angola go top with a
convincing win
At the same venue, Palancas Negras emerged victors in a
five-goal thriller with Seychelles to go top of the group.
Laurindo Aureli, who is commonly referred to as Depu, converted
Miro’s assist in the ninth minute to hand his team the
advantage.
The Pirates responded courtesy of Johan Gamatis in the 26th
minute before they took the lead for the first time a minute after
a restart after Lorenzo Hoareau picked Brandon Labrosse in a good
area.
Angola responded after 12 minutes, with Depu converting Hossi’s
precise pass. Antonio Muanza won it for his side with a quarter of
an hour to go and claimed vital points in favour of his nation.
Group C’s final games will be between Namibia and Seychelles
while Lesotho will be facing Angola.
On Tuesday, July 2, hosts Bafana Bafana will be aiming at
convincingly beating Eswatini to stand a chance of advancing. The
other game will be between Mozambique and Botswana. Interestingly,
every team Group A has two points with an equal chance of
progressing.
