The police are searching for two Haitians who posed as caregivers and accompanied a group of 59 disabled orphans to Jamaica in March this year.
Twelve adults from the group of 14 so called caregivers were repatriated to Haiti on Tuesday night, after the authorities established that they had come to the island under false pretence.
The Haitians, including the orphans, were being housed at Jacob’s Ladder in Moneague, St. Ann, a facility run by Mustard Seed communities.
Mustard Seed told Nationwide News last week that 14 of the so called caregivers left the facility without notice and disappeared for about 11 days.
“Troublesome”.
That’s how National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang is describing the group of Haitian adults, who posed as caregivers and travelled to Jamaica with a group of 59 disabled orphans.
Dr. Chang says one member of the group who was seen driving a motorcar in St. Ann, the day after he landed in Jamaica, along with another of his colleagues who left Jacob’s Ladder abruptly, have still not been located.
Meanwhile, Dr. Chang says one of the orphans who was reported missing has also still not been found.
The orphan, a boy with hydrocephalus was discharged from the Bustamante Hospital for Children after undergoing brain surgery.
Hydrocephalus is a neurological disorder caused by an abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles or cavities deep within the brain.
The child has reportedly not been seen since he was discharged sometime after Labour Day in May.
It is not known if the child is in the care of the two Haitians who cannot be found.
Meanwhile, Dr. Chang says the founder of HaitiChildren, Susie Krabacher, was denied entry into Jamaica three times because her conduct was questionable.
HaitiChildren is the non-profit organisation that organised the mission to send the 59 orphans to Jamaica.
According to the national security minister, the government has no intention of working with the HaitiChildren organisation going forward.
