Tanzania and Russia have reportedly agreed to adhere to their respective national laws regarding carriers, collaborate on flight safety, and ensure aviation security in line with the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Few weeks ago, Russian Ministry of Transport announced plans to launch direct air service from Russia to four new destinations – Tanzania, Kuwait, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia – by the end of 2024.
According to the Russian Ministry of Transport, a bilateral air transport agreement that aims to enhance the ease of direct air service between the two countries has been officially finalized between Russian Federation and Tanzania yesterday. The agreement was signed by Russian Deputy Minister of Transport and Tanzanian Ambassador to Russia.
Tanzanian Ambassador to Russia highlighted the significant travel interest of Russians towards Tanzania. He emphasized the necessity for direct air connections between the two countries.

The document also clarifies the guidelines for the functioning of contractual routes, regulations on airport charges, customs duties concerning the transportation of goods, and tariff policies for designated carriers.
A year ago, at the second Russia-Africa summit, the Russian Union of Travel Industry advocated for the reciprocal elimination of visas and the establishment of direct air routes with various African nations, claiming that Africa was a favored destination for Russians, and broadening the flight connections “would allow tour operators to enrich their selection of outbound tourism packages.”
Four months ago, Africa Division of the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Aeroflot, the national flag carrier of Russia, had relaunched its air service to the Seychelles in 2022 and to Mauritius in the subsequent year. These African states, along with Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa, were identified by Russian Foreign Ministry officials as the top sub-Saharan destinations favored by Russian tourists.
