The High Command of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, is distancing itself from remarks made by one of its senior members regarding licensed firearm holders.
During a recent sitting of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation, Deputy Superintendent Paul Bernard called for residents to embrace community based policing to address crime and violence in the parish.
He noted that there was a void between the police and residents with many of them choosing not to assist the security forces even when they have knowledge of criminal activity.
DSP Bernard described many residents including licensed firearm holders as cowards.

The JCF in a statement says the officer’s comments, which were captured and disseminated by mainstream media outlets, are viewed with grave concern.
It says the comments run counter to the principles and model of stakeholder engagement that the JCF rigorously upholds.
According to the constabulary, the remarks were reckless and not representative of the values and professional standards of the JCF.
The High Command says it is currently reviewing the matter with utmost seriousness.
The JCF says DSP Bernard will also face the High Command.
