The company has partnered with three e-mobility players to expand charging capabilities across its retail network.
TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya (TMK) currently operates a total of 13 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across its retail network in the country.
According to a report by Business Daily Africa, the company has partnered with three EV players to expand its charging capabilities from three locations to the current 13. Ampersand, Roam, and Arc Ride were the firms tapped by the chain to grow its e-mobility footprint.
“Leveraging our network of service stations, we have opened 13 EV sites in 2023 as compared to three sites in 2022 providing convenient access to battery charging and swapping points to electric motorbike customers,” stated TotalEnergies in a recently published annual report, according to the news website.
The move aims to cater to the rise of EVs registered in Kenya, which saw a fivefold increase last year as adoption gains momentum through both companies and individuals making the shift to electric.
According to data from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, a total of 2,694 EVs were registered in 2023, more than five times the 475 units registered in the previous year.
