Ride-sharing platform, inDrive, has denied suggestions that murdered school teacher Danielle Anglin was abducted the day she used its platform.
The company issued the denial in a statement to the media on Tuesday.
Daina Davy has more in this report.
InDrive says thanks to its AI-powered facial recognition technology, 99.9% of Jamaican rides have been incident-free.
It says accusations that Danielle Anglin was abducted and murdered after using its service are false.
While extending condolences to Miss Anglin’s family and pledging to support them, the company says it is important to provide complete transparency.
It says the school teacher last used its platform on May 11.
That’s two days before she’s alleged to have disappeared.
The company says based on information received from the authorities, it can also confirm that the suspect in custody is not a registered user of its platform.
It says there is no name, number, or email address associated with the suspect.
The company says it’s collaborating with authorities on the investigation into the disappearance and suspected murder and can confirm that it did not happen on the inDrive platform.
It says it will continue to cooperate closely with the police to ensure justice is served in the matter.
The company says it has implemented an enhanced user verification system, which bars drivers from accessing the platform without all the requested paperwork being approved.
InDrive says it has been in dialogue with the relevant authorities in order to co-create initiatives that stamp out assault and violence for both drivers and passengers.
