An Angola man is facing several charges stemming from an investigation into a two-vehicle crash that took the life of a child Saturday evening. The incident took place in the Town of Hamburg shortly before 8:15 PM. Hamburg Town Police say a vehicle traveling east on Route 5 stopped to turn left onto North Creek Road when it got struck from behind by a truck driven by 52-year-old Markus Genovese. The crash resulted in the death of 8-year-old Thomas Ross of Blasdell, who was a backseat passenger in the stopped vehicle. Meanwhile, a 4-year-old child in the vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and was later discharged to recover at home. Officers say Genovese fled the scene, but he was later apprehended while trying to hide in a nearby backyard. Genovese was transported by ambulance to ECMC and was later charged with 1st- and 2nd-degree vehicular manslaughter, DWI, DWI by combination of alcohol and narcotics, felony aggravated unlicensed operation, leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, and numerous other vehicle and traffic violations. Genovese was arraigned on the charges at the hospital and is being held without bail pending a felony hearing scheduled for Thursday in Hamburg Town Court.
