NEOSHO, MO — A young couple from Claremore who were killed by gang members in Haiti while serving there as missionaries were laid to rest on Tuesday.
Thousands showed up to pay their respects at their joint funeral service in Missouri.
Many tears, memories and even laughs were shared in the service as they remembered the couple for what they did for communities, not just in Oklahoma, but also in Haiti.
“Davy had a love for Haiti that no one could comprehend including myself,” said David Lloyd, Davy’s father.
FOX23 reported Davy and Natalie Lloyd were among three people who were killed by criminal gang members in Haiti last month.
David said they were later shot and their bodies were burned.
“When he was little he would say when I am big I’m going to be a missionary in Haiti,” David said.
Davy’s parents founded Missions in Haiti, Inc. and said Davy had been involved in their missionary work since he was a child.
He dreamed about it as a kid and when he first traveled to Haiti with Natalie, he discovered she was in love with it just as much as he was.
David said they left part of his remains in Haiti and brought the rest back to the U.S. so he could be in both places he loved.
“I know Davy and Natalie are in Heaven complete and whole,” David said.
Davy and Natalie’s families are asking people to donate to Missions in Haiti, Inc. or Ozark Bible Institute in their names.
