The widow of businessman Keith Clarke, Dr. Claudette Clarke on Monday questioned how no one else but her husband was shot and killed during a joint police military operation at her residence in May 2010.
This follows claims by the defence that gunmen were on her property firing shots at the police and soldiers.
Dr. Clarke is giving evidence in the Supreme Court against three soldiers accused of killing her husband.
The soldiers are, Lance Corporal Greg Tinglin, Corporal Odel Buckley, and Private Arnold Henry
Robian Williams has been following the trial.
During cross examination on Monday, Dr. Claudette Clarke rejected claims from the defence that there were gunmen at her Upper Kirkland Heights residence in St. Andrew on May 27, 2010.
Despite suggestions that gunmen were on her premises and in the basement, Dr. Clarke maintained that only her, her husband and her youngest daughter were at the house.
Defence Attorney Linton Gordon suggested that gunmen engaged the security forces in a shooting battle.
To this, Dr. Clarke said “I will repeat it one hundred and million time. There was only me, my daughter and my husband there. There was no one on the premises, I don’t know them, I did not see them, I don’t know where they came from!”
At this point Dr. Clarke questioned how no one was captured or shot during the ordeal.
Mr. Linton submitted that Dr. Clarke previously told the court that her husband returned fire with his licensed firearm.
Dr. Clarke testified that she heard it on the news that a soldier was shot during the operation.
She added that based on that she assumed her husband returned fire as she didn’t see him doing so.
She said, “my husband left the room and went into another room with his firearm. I cannot say if he was firing shots because I did not see him firing.”
Mr. Linton suggested that Dr. Clarke is making up a story.
She responded, “I am not making up any story. I came here to give evidence because it was required of me. Anything that happen in here not going to bring back my husband”
Mr. Linton accused Dr. Clarke of lying to justify how a soldier was shot after hearing it on the news.
He submitted, “You adjusted the story to say he was protecting his family. You adjust your evidence and make up stories as you see fit. Stories you make up which change from time to time you made them up to protect the reputation of your husband ”
“I don’t agree with you, I am not telling any lie. I lived it, I did not make up any story sir. Nothing is going to bring back my husband. I didn’t see him firing his firearm.”
Dr. Clarke, who is the prosecution’s first witness, has been on the stand for approximately four weeks.
Her daughter, Britney Clarke has now taken the stand.
She will continue giving evidence when the trial resumes on Tuesday morning at 10.
