Louisville’s SOS International sending medical, other supplies to Malawi in central Africa
A Louisville nonprofit is sending $270,000 worth of donated medical supplies to central Africa.The team at SOS International loaded up a shipping container bound for Malawi last week.The equipment and supplies will make surgeries possible and help prevent infectious disease outbreaks.The shipment also includes food, computers, wheelchairs and canes. “People who need wheelchairs or some type of mobility aid literally are on the side of the road begging,” said Denise Sears. President of SOS International. “That is their only option for survival, but by giving them mobility, we’re giving them some independence so they can care for themselves, potentially have a job, help support their family.”The shipment is expected to arrive in about eight weeks.
