Nationwide sources have confirmed that PNP President, Mark Golding, is moving to reshuffle the ranks of the party’s Shadow Cabinet.
It’s understood Mr. Golding has been privately contacting several key members of the party’s parliamentary caucus to advise them he intends to broaden the membership of the slate of shadow spokespersons.
Sources say the party’s firebrand general secretary, and a key Golding ally, Dr. Dayton Campbell, will now shadow the agriculture portfolio.
PNP chairman Dr. Angela Brown Burke is reportedly tipped to replace MP for South East St. Ann, Lisa Hanna as the party’s point person on foreign affairs.
Transport spokesperson, Mikael Phillips, will see an expanded portfolio, now also taking on responsibility for mining.
It’s understood Phillip Paulwell will retain responsibility for shadowing the energy portfolio. It’s not immediately clear whether he will remain the Leader of Opposition Business in the House.
Senator Janice Allen will receive support in shadowing tourism, with caretaker for West Portland, Doreen Campbell, being added as her deputy.
It’s understood several PNP caretakers will be named Deputy Spokespersons in the revamped Shadow Cabinet.
The PNP president is reportedly making the moves as the party prepares for what’s expected to be a fiercely contested Local Government Election in February.
The moves also come amid increasing calls for the PNP to clearly outline its policy positions on a raft of issues currently facing the country.
