The Member of Parliament for Western St. Thomas, James Robertson, says he was considering leading a demonstration to highlight the plight of motorists who traverse a section of the Southern coastal highway improvement project in the parish.
Motorists have expressed grave concern about their safety along the section of the highway between Bull Bay in St. Thomas and Harbour View in St. Andrew, especially at nights.
This, due to the absence of signs and ongoing construction work on the corridor.
One caller, Ladonna who spoke during the Consumer Hour Tuesday morning with Cliff Hughes and Honika Brown said the roadway is almost a death trap for motorists.
A woman who gave her name as Ladonna, speaking on the Consumer Hour.
Meanwhile, the China Harbour Engineering Company, CHEC, is urging residents who live in communities between Harbour View and Yallahs, to desist from removing signs posted on that leg of the Southern Coastal Highway.
In a statement on Tuesday, CHEC says it’s deeply concerned about recent incidents where road signs and markers have been removed or tampered with by residents.
CHEC noted that the signs are of critical importance in ensuring public safety and traffic management.
The company is imploring residents to refrain from removing the signs as it may pose serious hazards to nearby communities.
CHEC is urging persons who have concerns about the placement of any road signs to reach out to the company directly rather than taking matters into their own hands.
